Photography has been a part of my family for generations. My great grandfather made his living as a portrait photographer; my grandfather was an amateur filmmaker and avid black and white photographer developing his own prints; and, my father was also a enthusiastic photographer and home movie aficionado. It came as no surprise, when I majored in photography in college. Soon though, I switched to cinema because I enjoyed the ability to add sound and movement.
The photographs included here are some I took this past year with my iPhone. Simple and observational, they capture a moment in time. The commonality between all of these photographs is that I was driving along a road on my way someplace else when I was drawn to stop and snap a few photos. All I had with me was my iPhone 3. Viewing the photographs now, I easily recall the day they were taken and the wonder and creative spark I experienced in those moments. I would not call these my best work! They are examples of the immediacy of image making with smartphones. Soon, I will add other work to illustrate more controlled exposure.
